SARNIA – Sarnia horse racing and gaming enthusiasts will soon get the chance to be able to do both as Hiawatha Horse Park soon welcomes the addition of 150 slot machines. The slot machines will be located at the newly renovated Gateway Casinos Sarnia, which will be adjacent to the racetrack and will be part of the Hiawatha Horse Park and Entertainment Center.
In May of 2019, the announcement of the approval of slot machines at Hiawatha Horse Park was welcomed with delight by local citizens. After a 6-year hiatus in which there once were 450 slot machines at Hiawatha, as part of the Slots at Racetracks Programs run by the Ontario government, the re-installation of slot machines will help to serve the gaming interests of Sarnia.
Sarnia Mayor, Mike Bradley, is satisfied with the progress being made in construction and believes that the initial installation of 150 slot machines could increase in the future if the demand for more is there.
The official launch date for this new Hiawatha Horse Park and Entertainment Center will be January 31, 2020. Along with the slot machines, Gateway Casinos Sarnia will also be serving alcoholic beverages from its signature Express Bar.
