VANCOUVER – Amid the rapid transmission and spread of COVID-19 throughout Canada and the world, Great Canadian Gaming announced the close of three of their racetracks indefinitely. The three racetracks to close are Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, B.C., Fraser Downs in Surrey, B.C., and Flamboro Downs in Hamilton, Ontario.

This measure of suspending operations at racetracks is meant to help slow the spread of COVID-19 among customers and employees. Included in this measure, both racing and horse training would be suspended on all of the aforementioned racetracks. This move to suspend operations at their racetracks also comes on the heels of Great Canadian Gaming closing all of their gaming venues to help limit large congregations at their facilities.

This temporary shutdown of their racetracks and gaming venues does not have an estimated shutdown time frame, as the situation is evolving and changing by the day. However, as increasing numbers of positive COVID-19 cases continue to rise in both B.C. and Ontario, as well as the rest of Canada, it’s safe to assume that normal operations will not be resuming in the immediate future.
